RECENT NEWS & EVENTS

Parish Council

Your Parish Council from the Chairman and Vice Chairman.

The Carlton News is starting a new initiative in co-operation with the Parish Council, by printing points of interest raised at Council Meetings.

At the last meeting and enquiry was made as to the cost of a Christmas Tree and lights in the village, maybe somewhere along the grass verge on the main road into the village.
It was discussed that this would incur a cost on next years Parish Council Rates, but the Council agreed to look into this and the Parish Clerk is to make enquiries for costing.

The Council would like feedback from people in Carlton about this initiative and this can either be made through the Carlton News or via the Parish Council itself.

A parish councillor requested information from the District Council as to why Carlton had NOT won any of the funding that had been made available for leisure equipment. We hope to publish the reply from the District Council regarding this when it arrives.

An update was given by a District Councillor about an enquiry made to the County Council at the last meeting. This was in relation to gulley and verge cleaning around the village.
Although this hasn’t been done yet, the District Councillor who made the enquiry has been assured by the County Council that this will be done in the future.

Unfortunately the Police were not able to attend the January meeting, so no update was available from them and there was just one member of the public on this occasion.

ARCHIVED NEWS AND EVENTS

Items arising from Parish Council meeting 10/07/2007.

1 A delegation of residents from High Road, Carlton voiced their concern over traffic problems - ie parking, continual flouting of the 30 mph speed restriction. The council explained that we have been trying to get both county and police to take action on various things including speed cameras and further traffic calming. Even our county councillor is frustrated that nothing has been put in motion. The council will send another letter to county and police superintendent. The residents said they would set up an action committee and start a petition.

2 On a more positive note the new play equipment at the field at the side of the village hall will be installed and in use for August 3rd 2007. Also with some negotiation the slide and climbing frame there at the moment will be refurbished and, if the Gateway Centre is happy to have it installed on spare land at the side of the centre, then this would be its new home.

3 Councillor Connelly suggested an emergency contact number sheet to be collated and distributed to all councillors due to the recent flooding so members of the public can be guided to the correct department in cases of emergency. This was supported unanimously.

Play Park

I can confirm that the new play park, to include equipment that is already on the field behind the the village hall, should be built and finished so children up to 11 years can use it.

The money was from the new development on the old Kingston School site. The builder had to set aside money for a leisure area for the children from the new houses which was £64,000. This goes to the District council after which the Parish claims the money and has all the say on how we want the new area to look. This process includes using the council approved tender system - picking the most practical scheme from 3 submitted schemes from 3 council approved contractors. The plans also went to Kingston and Ramsden schools so they could have input into the final scheme chosen by the parish council.

Flower Beds and Park Benches

Parish Council - 4 new flower beds and 4 new park benches to enhance the appearance of the village.

Parking Problems Initiatives
The parking problem at the entrance to the village resolved by installing bollards, marking out the bus stop area and reseeding the grass verge.
